Aasmah Mir

Aasmah Mir is a Sony Gold Award-winning broadcaster who has worked in TV and radio for over 25 years.

She is the co-presenter of the Breakfast Show on Times Radio with Stig Abell, which launched in June 2020; and a columnist for The Sunday Times.

Before that she co-presented ‘Saturday Live‘ on BBC Radio 4 from 2014 to 2020.

She also presents and reports from landmark TV events for BBC1, including the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (2019), Hay Festival (2019), The Centenary of Votes for Women (2018) and The Battle of Jutland Remembered (2016).

She reported for ITV during General Elections (2017, 2015). In 2014, she co-presented ‘Scotland Decides’ – ITV’s live results programme for the Scottish independence referendum.

Born and brought up in Glasgow of Pakistani heritage, Aasmah graduated in law from Bristol University. At the age of 22, she started work as a graduate trainee with STV in Glasgow, becoming a newsreader and reporter.

In 2001, she moved to Radio 5 Live, working across the network before moving in 2010 to present ‘Drive’ with Peter Allen. The programme won a Sony Gold Award in 2011 and again in 2012.

Aasmah left Radio 5 Live in 2012, after eleven years, and moved to Radio 4.

From 2013 to 2018 she reported for ITV’s Tonight programme.

In 2015, she appeared on ‘Celebrity Mastermind’ on BBC1 and won.

She has presented documentaries for Radio 4 and the BBC World Service. From 2005 to 2007, she wrote a column for the Sunday Herald newspaper. She now writes for the Times and Sunday Times.

Her first book – a memoir – will be published by Headline Books in 2023.
