Leah MacRae is a familiar face of Scottish stage and screen.
Best known as ‘Ellie McLean’ in BBC’s River City, the much loved ditzy ‘Julie’ in Greg McHugh’s Scottish BAFTA Award winning comedy Gary: Tank Commander and as ‘Jenny’ in the BBC3 hit comedy Grownups. Leah has also performed in multiple sell-out commercial theatre shows across the UK.
Leah played the role of ‘Maggie’ in the hit one-woman comedy 51 Shades Of Maggie which took Scotland by storm on its debut and sold out the Pavilion Theatre Glasgow, becoming the fastest selling show there since Mrs Brown’s Boys. She reprised the role with a tour of Scotland, England and Wales performing at the Manchester Palace, Bristol Hippodrome, Pavilion Theatre Rhyl, Durham Theatre, New Oxford Theatre, and many more.
Leah then wrote and produced her first stage show Leah MacRae: My Big, Fat Fabulous Diary which she toured in venues across Scotland to rave reviews.
Having appeared previously in The Ugly Kid (which became Scottish BAFTA Award winning pilot sketch show: Blowout for Channel 4) and The Angry Puppy (Fringe Funny Woman Award Winner) at the Edinburgh Fringe, Leah was delighted to make her one woman debut at The Edinburgh Fringe this year and she brings it to London’s Soho Theatre in October 2022.
Leah will tell you that she is an Actress who loves the variety of her job with a great ability to work at a high level across many genres and she can even belt out a big ballad or two.
Industry professionals will tell you she is also a brilliant stand-up comedian who can hold huge audiences in the palm of her hand, with a real talent for writing witty, observational comedy. But shhh! Don’t tell her we said that because, as exciting as it may, be she finds it a wee bit terrifying and so will continue to profess that she is not also a stand-up comedian. Even though, well really…she kind of is!
