Michael was born on the 13th April, 1980 in Falkirk, Scotland. He has lived in many different areas across the UK including: Barrow-in-Furness (Cumbria), Rowland’s Castle (Hampshire), and Street (Somerset).
After spending his early childhood in the Lake District Michael’s Family re-located to the south coast in 1988, where Michael started boarding school (Dumpton School, Wimborne, Dorset) at the age of 8. In 1993 Michael won a sports scholarship to Millfield School (Street, Somerset) where he also studied for his GCSE’s and A-Level’s (Geography, French and Theatre Studies).
Whilst at Millfield Michael excelled at both Cricket and Hockey. He went on to Captain the school 1st XI Hockey team and represented England Hockey at Under 18/21 level. During this time he also played for Havant Hockey Club. He currently plays for Richmond Hockey Club and represents the England Over 35’s team.
In 1998 Michael moved to Canada where he trained and worked as a Ski Instructor at Mont Tremblant (Quebec). After gaining his CSIA Level 3 Certification he remained at the ‘L’ecole de Ski’ in Mont Tremblant for 3 seasons, coaching kids between the ages of 3-16 years old.
Michael made his first appearance as a TV Presenter in 2002 on The CBBC Channel as the resident weatherman. He soon became a regular in the studio and could be seen daily on BBC One, BBC Two and The CBBC Channel. From here Michael went on to host CBBC shows ‘Best of Friends’, ‘X-change’ and ‘Sportsround’.
In 2006 Michael decided to turn ‘Freelance’ and took up his first role as a Sports Commentator with Eurosport, commentating on all their major International Hockey tournaments. From here Michael moved into Ski Commentary covering the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2006/07, also with Eurosport.
In recent years Michael has established a strong working relationship with Star Sports out in India where he continues to work a couple of times a year on a variety of International and Domestic Hockey Tournaments, including The Hockey India League and the Pro Kabaddi League.
In 2019 he became one of the FIH main presenters for the Pro League and the Series Finals.
He works for the PSA World Squash Tour and presents the El Gouna Open in Egypt each year.
Career Highlights include: Working on The London 2012 Olympics and hosting the Torch Relay, Commentating on The Hockey World Cup Final in 2014, and Hosting at Rugby World Cup 2015.
Michael has a variety of strings to his bow but the live television/event environment is certainly an area in which he thrives and excels. In fact, the more out of the “comfort zone” the better. Michael is versatile and loves a challenge, especially if it involves Sport. He prides himself on his professionalism and his attention to detail, especially when researching (another of his passions). This combined with his natural enthusiasm and charisma makes him a reliable choice for anyone looking for to host or Presenter.
